What's your method for calculating a tip?
I've worked a few jobs in the services industry (food, tech, etc) and tips really do make a huge difference. If the person smiles and makes a true and honest effort to give 'good' service, I start every tip with $10 and add 15% of the meal. If the total cost was up to or equal to $10 then I just match the price. If I'm at dinner and the meal is over $100 then I start at 40$ and add a 20%. More times than not I'm usually matching the full cost of the meal and I'm OK with that. In this day good service is worth it. I'd always rather reward someone for doing a great job than chew someone out for doing a crappy one.
What's the most drastic change you've ever made to your appearance?
Submitted by Laurie.
Once a while back I colored my hair dark green. Not all of it though, it was more like having dark green highlights. I liked it quite a bit and even my ultra-conservative southern family didn't seem to mind.
How do you eat your pizza: folded, flat or with a fork and knife?
Submitted by danimass.
I've been a folder for a while but every now and then I'll use a fork and knife. It all started at this pizza place back in Mandeville. They have these huge slices of pizza so you'd have to fold them in half just to fit them in your mouth. They also had desert pizzas like chocolate chip, apple, peach etc. Since those would usually be pretty thick and top heavy, you'd have to use a fork to prevent from getting your food everywhere when trying to eat it.
Today is my last day at SixApart. Overall its been a good experience and I wish everyone there the best of luck and success.
Do you believe in ghosts? Have you ever seen a ghost?
Submitted by Nancy.
Growing up in New Orleans, a city that has had more documented and recorded ghost sightings than any other place in the world, I've been raised believing in ghosts and magic (to a certain degree).
One of the best known ghost legends is that of The LaLaurie House. Another New Orleans ghost landmark is the Griffin House. Probably the most bizarre of those is that of the Sultan's Palace. Also near the French Quarter is the Beauregard Home, a must-see stop on the list of any tourist interested in the ghosts of New Orleans.
The legend of St Louis Cemetery No. 1 is one of the best-known tales of New Orleans haunting. In 1764, New Orleans was ceded to Spain. The French who lived in New Orleans tried in vain to reverse the decision. When attempts failed, a rebellion against Spanish rule broke out, led by six French men. The five principal leaders of the rebellion were eventually caught and killed by a Spanish firing squad. The sixth member also died later of bayonet wounds. After all the men were dead, Don Alejandro O'Reilly, an Irishman fighting for Spain and commander of the Spanish fleet, ordered that the men not be buried. He ordered that the corpses be left out in the open to rot.
Legend has it that late one night, Pere Dagobert, beloved priest of the New Orleans colony and friend of the slain men, went to the homes of the men and told their families to come to the church. Upon arriving, the families found that the men's bodies had somehow been brought to the cathedral. After a mass was held by Father Dagobert, the men were all buried in St. Louis Cemetery No. 1. No one knew, or was willing to tell, just how the priest managed this feat. However, there have been reports that the voice of Father Dagobert can be heard clearly singing in the early morning in the cemetery as he keeps the watch over the bodies of the men.
How many computers do you have in your house?
Submitted by Foomper.
At one point the count was up to nearly twenty but those days are over and the geekiness has died down a bit and I'm down to 4. I've got my new macbook pro, my old powerbook, an old desktop hanging out collecting dust and then Carolyn has her powerbook.
But if you think about it, I've got Parallels installed and have a Fedora Core 5 installation as well as Windows XP. Do virtual machines count?
What food or drink do you love when it's cold out? (Recipes and recommendations, please!)
When it is cold out I like to sit down with some tea. I really like Gyokuro Imperial Green Tea and Pi Lo Chun. Both of them are light and sweet.
What are your plans for the weekend?
Sunday is my 23rd birthday and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm not having a big party or anything, but I think Carolyn's mom is going to baby sit for an hour or two while Carolyn and I go have dinner. An hour or two with Carolyn is the best gift I can get.
I really dig the new themes.
